Internationalization of Teacher Education in Bavaria – Networking and Exchange between Bavarian Universities
Within the framework of “FAU Teacher Education International”, a meeting of participating Bavarian universities in the DAAD program “Lehramt.International” on the topic of “Internationalization of Teacher Education in Bavaria” was initiated and it took place in a digital meeting on February 9, 2021. The goal of the meeting was to network and exchange information about challenges and opportunities in the internationalization of teacher education in the context of regional specifics.
Teacher education in Germany is subject to state-specific legal foundations. Accordingly, the design of the internationalization of teacher education must also be considered in the context of state-specific framework conditions. Against this background, representatives of the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg, the Otto-Friedrich-Universität Bamberg, Universität Passau and the FAU participated in the networking meeting. They represented those Bavarian universities where projects in the DAAD program for the internationalization of teacher education are being implemented and engaged in an exchange about the Bavarian specifics of teacher education and their impact on the implementation of internationalization measures.
After a presentation of the project “FAU Teacher Education International” and a description of the strategic handling of challenges within the project, participants collectively identified areas in which they perceive challenges for the internationalization of teacher education in Bavaria. Taking into account own experiences (especially from the project work in the DAAD program “Lehramt.International”), the group discussed potential solutions, which will be pursued further as a common agenda.
With regional networking and cooperation in dealing with Bavarian specifics in teacher education, the internationalization of teacher education will be further promoted. The meeting of the Bavarian universities will continue in the future and will take place every six months. The network will be further extended to all schools that offer teacher education in Bavaria.
