Internationalisation at home / Internationalisation of the Curriculum

Internationalisation at home and internationalisation of the curriculum are essential when it comes to establishing international structures in teacher education at FAU. “FAU Teacher Education International” aims to provide opportunities for international experiences to all students of teaching at FAU. In addition to mobility opportunities, there is an offer for international experiences “at home”.

The goal is to promote the development of a profile regarding the international and intercultural dimension of the teaching profession among students of teacher education. With the development of such an international profile, future teachers will be able to successfully shape educational processes for internationally mobile students in their future work at schools and help shape cooperation in international educational work at schools.

Internationalisation is implemented at home through various measures, such as the annual International Week in Teacher Education, in which participants can take part in workshops and (guest) lectures and expand their international and intercultural competences. FAU’s international research and development projects are also open to students. The network “Internationalisation of Education in the Metropolitan Region of Nuremberg” in particular offers the opportunity to participate in an international exchange and in international cooperations “at home”.

In addition, the internationalisation of the curriculum is also an essential part of internationalisation at home because gaining international experience in teacher education is also possible through participation in courses with an international focus. “FAU Teacher Education International” therefore promotes the (further) development of internationally focused courses in the subject-related studies, in subject-related didactics and in educational sciences. This includes courses that take into account an international dimension in the course content, that are conducted in a foreign language or bilingually, in which international students participate, or that are conducted by international guest lecturers. Last but not least, the use of new media also offers the opportunity to have international experiences at home. Within the framework of “FAU Lehramt International”, virtual mobility through international web-based courses is therefore established as an internationalisation element in teacher education at FAU.
